Three people have died, and several others are in critical condition following a suspected cholera outbreak in Isiodum, a community in the Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Dr. Gogo-Ogute Isaiah, former Chairman of Andoni LGA, raised the alarm on Saturday, warning that without urgent intervention, more lives could be lost. Isaiah, who was inspecting a water rehabilitation project in Unyeada, his home town, learned of the outbreak in Isiodum.
He reported that two residents, Mr. Michael Agba and Mrs. Abigail Rowland, died the previous night from severe vomiting and diarrhea.

Isaiah added, “This morning, January 11th, 2025, Mrs. Ekenere Awaji Loveday has also been reported dead, while others, including Mrs. Amos Asitor, are in critical condition. Access to medical care is almost impossible in the area.”
Isiodum, a historic community near Unyeada, lacks reliable access to clean drinking water, exacerbating the situation.
Dr. Isaiah called on the state government and the Ministry of Health to urgently intervene to prevent further loss of life. “The residents are at risk of fleeing the area for safety as the situation worsens by the hour,” he said.
A source from the Ministry of Health confirmed that a medical team has been sent to the area, and treatment is already underway for those affected.
