Three Dead, Six Arrested as Methodist Church Factions Clash in Taraba
EKO HOT BLOG reports that The incident occurred on Sunday in Munga Dasso village, located within the Karim-Lamido local government area. Tensions erupted after one faction reportedly unsealed a church building to hold a service, triggering the violence.
According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Usman, the clash resulted in three fatalities. Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident, and security forces have been deployed to prevent further violence in the area.
The dispute is believed to be rooted in a long-standing leadership conflict between the UMCN and the breakaway GMC. The situation had previously led to the state government sealing off church properties across the region in an attempt to prevent further clashes. However, Sunday’s violent outbreak has reignited tensions between the factions.
Some worshippers, who spoke with our reporter, expressed frustration over the government’s inability to resolve the ongoing crisis, warning that it is increasingly endangering peace and security in the state.
