Eko hot blog reports that In a bid to confront the rising wave of insecurity, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, recently hosted a high-stakes powwow, bringing together 19 northern governors and service chiefs for a crucial closed-door session.
Behind the secretive confines of Ribadu’s office, the minds of security heavyweights convened to dissect the grim reality plaguing the region. From the recent onslaught where 287 students were snatched from LEA Primary and Junior Secondary School in Kaduna, to the chilling abduction of 112 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Borno, the stakes were sky-high.
Adding to the urgency, 15 students fell victim to abduction in Sokoto State, with another 61 individuals falling prey to the same fate in Kaduna just the day prior.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, head honcho of the Northern Governors’ Forum, emphasized the gravity of the situation. “It relates to security, and you know security is very typical,” he explained. “We need to discuss, review, and possibly take alternative options to what we have been doing before so that we can have a better result.”
Yahaya underscored the necessity for a united front in combating the menace.
“Non-kinetic and kinetic approaches are needed to address the remote causes of insecurity,” he asserted, emphasizing the critical need for collaboration and multifaceted strategies in restoring peace to the embattled region.
