EKO HOT BLOG reports that significant events during this session include the “Summit of the Future” on September 22-23, and various high-level plenary meetings, such as discussions on the existential threats posed by sea-level rise (September 25), the commemoration of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons (September 26), and a meeting focused on antimicrobial resistance (September 26).
In a statement released on Thursday, the presidency announced that President Tinubu will not attend this year’s UNGA, choosing instead to concentrate on critical domestic matters.
According to Dada Olusegun, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, the decision was made following Tinubu’s recent trips to China and the United Kingdom, as he aims to address pressing challenges facing the country, particularly in the wake of recent devastating flooding.
“Mr. President will not be attending this year’s United Nations General Assembly because, after his trips to China and the United Kingdom, he wants to focus on domestic issues and address some of the country’s challenges, especially after the recent devastating flooding,” Olusegun shared in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
