Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the construction of the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge, a major infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity in the Lekki-Epe axis of Lagos State.
The Governor shared this development via a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
“We believe that good roads and transport infrastructure are essential for the growth of Lagos State, and to support this, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CCECC to build the Lekki-Epe Link Bridge.
Our strategic transport masterplan is not just a blueprint; it’s a commitment to improving the lives of all Lagosians,” Governor Sanwo-Olu stated.
He emphasized that the project is a crucial element of the state’s strategic transport masterplan, designed to enhance road networks, reduce traffic congestion, and improve commuting efficiency, all of which are vital for driving economic growth.
“By focusing on key road networks, we aim to reduce traffic congestion and create a seamless commuting experience, while also supporting economic growth. We have had discussions about awarding the EPC contract to CCECC, and feasibility and design studies for the project have already been conducted,” he added.
In addition to the bridge project, the statement also highlighted the signing of a new MoU to implement solar power systems across several key tertiary institutions in Lagos State.
These institutions include Lagos State University and its campuses, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine.
“We also signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across our tertiary institutions. These solar systems, expected to generate about 50 MW, will provide cleaner and more affordable electricity.
This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy as a key part of our economic development,” the Governor noted.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Summit, which began on September 4, 2024, is set to conclude on September 6.
