Tinubu Blows Hot, Cracks Down On Salary Fraud By Relocated Civil Servants

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a crackdown on civil servants who have relocated abroad while still drawing salaries without officially resigning.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the President  demanded immediate reimbursement of all wages fraudulently received by civil servants involved.

Speaking at the 2024 Civil Service Award and Gala Night, held at the Abuja Continental Hotel to conclude the week-long 2024 Civil Service Week, Tinubu called for stringent measures to address this misconduct. The event also featured a media briefing by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Folasade Yemi-Esan, who revealed the extent of the issue.

Yemi-Esan noted that some civil servants had moved abroad and continued to draw salaries without resignation, prompting the need for decisive action. She assured that measures are now in place to prevent such fraud in the future.

In his address, President Tinubu emphasized the need for accountability and restitution, stating unequivocally that civil servants who collected salaries fraudulently must repay the money. He also demanded punishment for supervisors who allowed such fraud to occur under their watch.

“The individuals involved must repay the money they fraudulently collected. Additionally, their supervisors and department heads must be punished for enabling this fraud,” Tinubu asserted.

He highlighted the critical role of the Civil Service in government operations, stressing that it cannot tolerate misconduct.

Tinubu concluded by stating that the Civil Service cannot become a place where misconduct is tolerated and rules are broken without consequences.
