EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Director-General (DG) of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Presidential Campaign Organization, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) just as the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, has joined the race for the presidential ticket of the ruling party.
Some political watchers have however attributed the defection of Tinubu Campaign DG, who is the DG of the Bola Tinubu Support Group Council, to squabbles in the Kano State chapter of the APC.
Announcing his resignation via his social media handles on Saturday, the former federal lawmaker said he has done his best for the APC and would soon let out his new party.
“I have done my best for APC. It’s time to move on. I will announce my new political party within the next 24 hours Insha Allah. I will make a formal statement in due course,” tweeted Jibrin who represented Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Reps.
This came the same day that a coalition of 28 groups including Youth Arise Movement, Nigerians in Diaspora, One Nigeria Group, Prudent Youth Association of Nigeria, women groups, farmers, and people with disabilities raised the N100 million to purchase the presidential nomination and expression of interest forms for AfDB’s Adesina.
The payment acknowledgment slip reportedly carried the name of Adesina, who was once Nigeria’s Agriculture Minister, as the recipient of the forms.
This move by the coalition led by Mohammed Saleh of One Nigeria Group, follows weeks of speculations that some APC chieftains were mounting pressure on him to enter the race and that it would be easier to secure presidential approval for his bid.
EKO HOT BLOG recalls that earlier in the week when Tinubu was asked to comment on the increasingly crowded race for the APC presidential ticket, he stated that the more the merrier.
