EKO HOT BLOG reports President Bola Tinubu has defended the size of his cabinet, consisting of 47 ministers, emphasizing that it reflects the diversity of roles essential for effective governance.
Despite concerns and calls for reduction, Tinubu expressed doubt, stating that merging ministries could lead to non-performance and lack of results.
The president, while meeting with the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), underscored the importance of faith leaders in promoting unity and peace.
He urged CAN to propagate messages of tolerance and hope, emphasizing that the fight against corruption and other vices remains a priority for his administration.
Acknowledging criticisms over the large cabinet, Tinubu argued that providing individuals with manageable challenges is crucial for efficiency.
He emphasized the need to give people roles they can handle, stating, “If you combine too many ministries because you want to save money, you will have a future of non-performance and no results.”
Tinubu called on Christian leaders to support the anti-corruption efforts by encouraging a change of mindset on money-related matters. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and a collective effort to address challenges, maintaining an open-door policy for feedback.
The CAN President, Daniel Okoh, commended Tinubu’s leadership and pledged the association’s support in nation-building. He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to address challenges and turn around the nation’s fortunes, highlighting CAN’s commitment to remaining non-partisan in its engagement.
Tinubu concluded the meeting by reaffirming his commitment to fair governance and urged the clergy to provide constructive inputs.
The dialogue centered on ensuring security, inclusivity, and peaceful coexistence in the country, with both parties expressing readiness for collaborative efforts in nation-building.
