According to the statement, Adeniyi’s tenure, which was earlier expected to end on August 1, 2026, will now run until February 2027.

The extension is intended to support the completion of the National Single Window project and ensure a smooth leadership transition within the service.
During this period, Adeniyi, working with the Nigeria Customs Service Board, is also expected to oversee the promotion of qualified officers and the retirement of those who have reached 60 years of age or 35 years in service.
Adeniyi, an alumnus of Obafemi Awolowo University, has served in various capacities in Customs, rising through the ranks before being appointed Comptroller-General in June 2023 by President Tinubu.

In a related development, the Nigeria Customs Service recently handed over high-end stolen vehicles, including luxury brands intercepted at the Tin Can Island Port in Lagos, to Canadian authorities.
The handover ceremony took place in May 2026 and was attended by officials from both countries.
