President Bola Tinubu and Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon have participated in the ceremonial signing of a commemorative card to mark the 50th anniversary of ECOWAS.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the event was held on Wednesday at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) in Lagos, the original ECOWAS treaty was signed in 1975.

Gowon, who is the only surviving leader among the founding signatories, was honoured for his role in championing regional integration.
Presidents Joseph Boakai of Liberia, Faure Gnassingbé of Togo, and Umaro Sissoco Embaló of Guinea-Bissau were also in attendance.
They reportedly reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals upon which ECOWAS was founded.
Other member states were represented, although Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso were absent due to their withdrawal from the bloc.
The ceremony is said to be continuing at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
