A top member of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Organisation has dismissed indicting allegations against the candidate of the ruling party.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that following several false allegations against the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, records show that there are no criminal allegations against him.

Mr Dele Alake, Media and Public Affairs Adviser to the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Organisation, said Asiwaju Tinubu was never been indicted of any criminal allegations in the US.

The adviser revealed that the case was opened during the second term election bid of Asiwaju Tinubu as Governor of Lagos in 2003.

Alake, who spoke on News Central TV, said that the APC’s Presidential candidate had been cleared of all cases as far back as 2003 when the case came up as a distraction to his re-election then.

Tinubu was said to have been cleared of all wrongdoing when the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at that time wanted to raise dust to discredit him. Alake mentioned that PDP brought up the issue of the drug case but did not succeed.

“..since 2003, exactly at the eve of the second term election of Tinubu as Governor of Lagos, that was when they first brought up this issue.”

“To the PDP at that time, it was their last straw to break the camels back. They had thrown every dirt and done everything within their power to stop Tinubu, but they couldn’t so they brought the issue of the drug case as their last card. And when they played that card they did not win,” Alake narrated.

Alake noted that Asiwaju Tinubu was with Alliance for Democracy (AD) at the time of the allegations and the party wrote a letter to the then Inspector-General of Police, Tafa Balogun (now late).

The letter was to confirm the alleged documents and allegations against Asiwaju Tinubu which prompted the IGP to write a letter to the US Embassy to check their records.

He said, “That was when the party, the Alliance for Democracy (AD) which Tinubu belonged to at that time now wrote a letter to the Inspector-General of Police, the late Tafa Balogun to investigate the veracity of the documents the opposition brought against Tinubu whether he was guilty or not.”

“The IGP now wrote the US embassy to help unravel the mystery and go through their records to know whether Tinubu was guilty or not as the PDP had claimed at that time.”

Alake maintained that following the request of the then IGP, Tafa, the US Embassy swung into action. After a thorough search of the FBI’s system, the US Embassy found no criminal records against Tinubu, he said.

“So based on Tafa Balogun’s request, the US embassy now replied that running through their records, the FBI records which is a centralised records, that there were no records of criminality against Tinubu. This ended the case. Tinubu went ahead and won the election.  ” Alake maintained.

Alake added that “at every election circle whenever the PDP feels it has nothing again against Asiwaju, it always brings up this same document.  This is why we are surprised that any media worth its salt in today’s Nigeria should still feast on this old and dismissed document.”

”All they wanted to achieve was to whip sentiments within Nigeria’s political space against our candidate. The case had since been dismissed with prejudice. This means this case must never come up anywhere in the world.”
