President Bola Tinubu has praised the late Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, former chairman of the defunct National Electoral Commission (NEC), for his unwavering commitment to democracy in Nigeria.

Speaking at Nwosu’s funeral service held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church, Ajalli, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday, Tinubu—represented by the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi—hailed the late professor as a statesman whose contributions to the country’s democratic evolution remain significant.

He urged Nigerians to uphold the values that Nwosu embodied, including integrity, patriotism, and dedication to democracy.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, Barr. Orji Uchenna Orji, Tinubu extended condolences to Nwosu’s family, the Anambra State government, and the Nigerian people.
“As we mourn Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, we also celebrate his profound contributions as a public administrator, political scientist, and academic icon. His democratic ideals and steadfast commitment to a better Nigeria will be remembered for generations,” Tinubu stated.
He reassured Nigerians of his administration’s dedication to revitalizing the economy and fostering sustainable growth.
“The fragile economy we inherited is now on the path to recovery. We have overcome the worst. Our democracy is maturing, and my administration remains committed to ensuring its benefits reach all Nigerians,” he affirmed.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, also paid tribute to Nwosu, lauding his role in introducing the Option A4 voting system and the Open Ballot process, which contributed to one of Nigeria’s most transparent elections.
