President Bola Tinubu returned to Abuja on Tuesday following his visit to Rome for the inauguration mass of Pope Leo XIV.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport was greeted by top government officials, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje.
During his visit to the Vatican, President Tinubu attended the papal inauguration at the personal invitation of Pope Leo XIV. In a statement posted on his 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle, the President praised the Pope’s humility and longstanding connection with Nigeria, describing the moment as a powerful reflection of the kind of moral leadership the world urgently needs.
“Today, at the Vatican, upon the personal invitation of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, I joined world leaders and millions of Catholics in witnessing the beginning of a new papacy,” Tinubu wrote.
“Pope Leo XIV’s humility, history with Nigeria, and message of peace remind us of the moral leadership the world desperately needs.”
He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering unity and peace across global divides, stating that the nation will continue to promote progress irrespective of race or religion.
“As a nation of deep faith and great diversity, Nigeria remains committed to building bridges across belief, race, and continent—for peace, for progress, and for all of humanity,” he added.
President Tinubu concluded his message with a prayer for divine guidance for the new leader of the Catholic Church, expressing hope for a more compassionate and just global society.
