President Bola Tinubu met with security chiefs, expressing satisfaction with their reports and urging greater collaboration to further reduce crime.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Bola Tinubu held a high-level meeting with the nation’s security chiefs on Friday at the State House in Abuja.
This online media platform reports that the meeting was attended by heads of various security agencies, including Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service Kemi Nandap, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
After the meeting, IGP Egbetokun briefed State House correspondents, stating that President Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the security reports and called for greater collaboration among the security agencies. He noted that it was a routine meeting where the President received updates on security operations.
“It was a routine security briefing with Mr. President where we provided updates on our operations. Mr. President is pleased with our progress and has challenged us to work even more closely together to enhance our collective effectiveness,” Egbetokun stated.
Egbetokun also confirmed a reduction in the crime rate in the country based on current statistics.
“As the Inspector General of Police, I can confirm that the crime rate in Nigeria is on a decline. Our records are clear, and we are committed to sustaining this downward trend,” the Police boss said.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who gave updates on the fight against oil theft in the country, highlighted the negative impact of oil theft on the nation’s economy.
He disclosed the move by the current administration to achieve a daily production of 2.1 million barrels of oil, stressing that efforts are underway to realize this goal.
“Nigeria’s economic stability heavily relies on our oil production. Our mandate is to restore full production capacity, aiming for 2.1 million barrels per day, which is entirely achievable. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure this target is met,” General Musa asserted.
He warned those involved in oil theft and other similar economic sabotage to desist or face the wrath of the law.
In his words, “For those involved in stealing our infrastructure and crude oil, your days are numbered. We are coming after you with full force. This is a collective effort—no single service or individual can tackle this alone. We need the cooperation of all stakeholders, including state governments and local communities.”
The CDS added that the President is aware of agitations from the oil-producing communities and is taking steps to address their concerns.
“The President is very much attuned to the issues raised by the communities. They can rest assured that we are working tirelessly to address their grievances and ensure continuous production,” he said.
