Eko hot blog reports that in a swift response to the recent turmoil in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), President Bola Tinubu has directed the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to expedite the distribution of grains to residents in need.
Editor’s pick:
The directive follows the recent looting of agricultural warehouses in the FCT by angry residents, highlighting the urgent need to address the community’s pressing needs.
The memo by Tinubu to the FCT Minister outlined the establishment of a strategic committee tasked with ensuring a fair and transparent distribution process. This committee, to be overseen by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), aims to reach vulnerable Nigerians swiftly.
The FCT Minister of State, Mariya Mahmoud, wasted no time in mobilizing efforts, announcing the formation of the committee during a meeting with area council chairpersons and key stakeholders. Mahmoud emphasized the importance of prompt action, giving the committee less than two weeks to fulfill the presidential directive.
Expressing disappointment at the initial response from area council chairpersons, Mahmoud cautioned against any actions that might hinder the president goodwill towards FCT residents.
The committee comprises representatives from various sectors, including local government, emergency management, security agencies, faith-based organizations, and civil society. This diverse lineup ensures comprehensive coverage and efficient distribution to those in need.
