EKO HOT BLOG reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently revealed a strategic plan aimed at restoring peace and security in Nigeria’s South-East region.
Unveiled in Bende, Abia State, the initiative known as the ‘Peace in the South-East Project’ is led by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, garnering attention nationwide during its logo unveiling ceremony.
Represented by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, President Tinubu emphasized the importance of local insights in resolving community issues. He lauded Kalu’s initiative, stressing the interconnectedness of Nigeria’s economic progress with the stability of all its regions.
Tinubu highlighted the economic devastation caused by non-state actors in the South-East and pledged to harness all available resources to ensure genuine and lasting peace. He expressed concern over economic sabotage under the guise of advocating for the South-East, emphasizing the need to discern propaganda from the truth.
Vice President Shettima reiterated the government’s commitment to resolving the crisis, underlining that the South-East’s future relies on collaboration among stakeholders. He urged unity among Nigerians to extinguish the flames of violence and rebuild the region’s economic life.
Governor Alex Otti of Abia State declared the peace resolution, symbolizing a collective commitment to peace and prosperity in the South-East. The declaration echoed sentiments of unity and a determination to restore the region’s economic vibrancy.
Senator Hope Uzodinma, speaking on behalf of South-East governors, applauded Kalu’s initiative and announced plans for a security summit to address regional security threats.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, emphasized the pivotal role of peace in fostering progress, calling on political leaders to embrace initiatives like the Peace in the South-East Project.
Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the brain behind the project, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received and outlined the project’s five-year plan aimed at tackling socio-economic challenges and fostering development in the region.
The event, attended by dignitaries including traditional rulers and political leaders, concluded with the symbolic release of pigeons to signify the pursuit of peace. It underscored a collective commitment to restoring tranquility and economic growth in the South-East.
