Highlighting the urgency, Wike stressed the need to alleviate congestion in the city and provide residents with efficient transport options. The impending launch promises easier access to key areas like the airport and surrounding councils, reducing reliance on personal vehicles.
But it’s not just about trains. Wike outlined plans to modernize FCT’s public transportation system, addressing security concerns posed by unregistered operators. “We’re establishing terminals for taxis and buses,” he confirmed, noting efforts to ensure all operators comply with regulations.
Moreover, discussions are underway to tackle issues like open grazing, with collaboration sought from law enforcement agencies and stakeholders.
Ambassador Bertrand praised FCT’s progress, expressing interest in potential partnerships. With green spaces and reduced traffic, Abuja’s future looks promising.
