EKO HOT BLOG reports that addressing State House correspondents after a closed-door meeting with the President and other service chiefs at the Aso Rock Villa, General Musa disclosed that new military equipment has already been procured and deployed, especially in northern regions affected by insurgency.
“Mr. President has given directives on intensified operations and we’re collaborating with neighbouring countries,” Musa said, citing Nigeria’s porous borders as a major factor worsening the security situation.
He explained that the military is scaling up both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies. While the procurement of air assets and enhanced combat equipment forms a key part of kinetic efforts, the federal government is also working closely with state governors to promote community development, social welfare, and youth engagement as long-term countermeasures to insecurity.
“The President is looking at ways to ensure the dividends of democracy reach all Nigerians, especially at the grassroots level. That will go a long way in tackling the root causes of insecurity,” Musa noted.
The CDS identified terrorist networks operating in the Sahel region as part of the wider threat landscape affecting Nigeria, adding that the military is updating its operational strategies to adapt to evolving threats.
He also stressed the importance of public support in the ongoing fight, urging citizens to report suspicious activity and avoid spreading misinformation, especially videos falsely attributed to Nigeria.
“We need Nigerians to cooperate with the Armed Forces. Report what’s wrong, even if it involves our personnel—action will be taken. And be wary of fake news spreading online,” he advised.
