Tinubu’s Ministerial List Is Uninteresting, Says Labour Party

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Labour Party, (LP) has described the ministerial list submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Senate for confirmation as ministers/members of the Federal Executive Council as uninspiring.

Obiora Ifoh, the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, noted that the individuals on the list verified worries that the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress administration was unprepared for the duty of governance.

According to Vanguard, the LP spokesman also proclaimed his party’s determination to seek legal counsel on the legitimacy or otherwise of the President’s choice to submit the ministerial list in pieces in a statement signed in Abuja on Sunday.

He declared that the list, as sent to the Senate and revealed on Thursday, “completely shattered” Nigerians’ hopes.

“Nigerians expected more quality, character, dynamic, and result-oriented Nigerians to be on that list,” Ifoh added, “but what we saw was a recycling of some failed and clueless politicians who have contributed to Nigeria’s parlous state.”

“Some of these nominees were prominent anti-democratic figures in the previous administration, particularly since 2015, when the APC government failed to keep all of its promises to Nigerians.”

“We also witnessed ‘Prependal’ politics in full swing, with cronies and lackeys of the APC national leader being chosen as a reward for servitude and blind discipleship.”

“It still perplexes us as to why this government chose to appoint spent forces that have failed Nigeria in the past rather than appointing young and technocratic potentials.”

“The Nigerian constitution clearly states that at least one minister must be appointed from each of the Federation’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.”

“The Electoral Act, as amended, also requires that a list of ministerial nominees be sent to the Senate for screening and confirmation within 60 days of the start of a government.” But what we saw was a rapidly created list that eliminated nominees from roughly ten states, clearly in violation of the law.

The Labour Party will therefore seek adequate legal assistance in the coming days on the validity or otherwise of a piecemeal submission of the ministerial list as opposed to the submission of the ‘Full’ list as contemplated by the Electoral Act.”

“When the Federal Executive Council meets, approximately ten states will not be represented.” No state in Nigeria should be compelled to suffer as a result of this government’s ill-preparedness and contradictory attitude.” He said.
