Tinubu’s Slip: President Says Fall Was Respect To Democracy (VIDEO)

Eko Hot Blog reports that President Bola Tinubu has responded with good humor to the viral video capturing his slip while boarding the presidential vehicle at Eagles Square in Abuja.

Tinubu playfully referred to the incident as a “swagger,” attributing it to his traditional Yoruba upbringing and explaining that he was actually performing a customary greeting described as as “idobale” (prostrating) to mark Democracy Day.

Addressing the matter with a touch of wit during the state Banquet Dinner at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu said, “This morning, I had a little swagger moment, and it’s already all over social media.”

“There was some confusion whether I was doing the Buga or donning the babariga. But, it’s all in the spirit of celebrating democracy while paying homage for the day. Being a proud Yoruba, I simply performed my ‘Idobale,’” he added.

Recall that Tinubu momentarily lost his footing as he prepared to enter the vehicle upon his arrival at the 2024 Democracy Day event venue.

However, he swiftly regained his balance and proceeded with the proceedings.
