Eko Hot Blog report that with the inauguration of a new government just eight days away on May 29th, the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, emphasized the importance of testing the nation’s judicial system in the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
In his address during the first session of the 12th synod of Abuja Diocese, the Primate of the Anglican Church, Most Rev. Henry Ndukuba, expressed gratitude to Nigerians, particularly the youth, for their patriotism and their role in bringing about change in the country’s political landscape. He believed that a new Nigeria was now within reach.
The Primate also extended congratulations to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, as well as the incoming governors and members of the 10th National Assembly.
He urged the incoming administration to prioritize various aspects of governance, including the security of lives and property, education, healthcare, economy, rule of law, law enforcement, all-inclusive government, addressing infrastructural neglect, completing and operating critical industries, and building a united and prosperous nation.
Specifically, he called upon the government to provide adequate security for all citizens, as the current state of insecurity and attacks on Christian Churches, communities, and citizens was deeply concerning.
He emphasized the need to prioritize education and improve the healthcare delivery system to reduce dependence on medical tourism.
The Primate also expressed apprehension about rising inflation, debt servicing burden, and fuel subsidy, urging the government to alleviate the suffering of the masses by providing education, economic empowerment, and employment opportunities for the youth and citizens.
Additionally, the Church emphasized the importance of addressing infrastructural neglect by completing road construction projects, schools, and other basic infrastructure to make up for the long-standing deficiencies in the country.
The government was urged to focus on the development of key critical projects such as the Ajaokuta Steel Industry, refineries, modular refineries, textile industries, and other agro-based industries to stimulate economic growth and create employment opportunities.
