The Lawmaker representing Epe Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon Mustain Abiodun Tobun, on Wednesday, 19th August 2021, called on his constituents to put all hands on deck to ensure rapid development at the grass-roots, which translates to the overall growth of the State and Country.
Hon Tobun was speaking in his keynote address at the 7th Annual Stakeholders’ Town Hall Meeting tagged “Increasing Wave of Drug Abuse: A Threat to Nation-Building,” held at the Council Chambers of Epe Local Government Secretariat, Ita-Marun, Epe, Lagos State.
Hon Tobun disclosed to the gathering the significance of Nation-building which not only translates to infrastructural development but the process of engaging all residents irrespective of age, creed or class, especially young people for robust national development.
He noted that there must be a synergy and holistic approach employed by community stakeholders towards ensuring the safety, security and sanity of all by nurturing, building and protecting the younger generation.
“The government at various levels have been making the effort in addressing some of the problems associated with drug abuse and its danger, the house of assembly has continued to be proactive in the consideration of viable laws and policies that would enhance youth potentials and development,” he stated.
He, therefore, admonished stakeholders, residents parents, teachers, schools administrators, religious organizations, celebrities, social media influencers, community leaders and various professional bodies to work with the Government for the advancement of society by saying: “NO To Drug Abuse.”
During his address, the lawmaker also stated that the construction of the Ayetoro market would commence in two weeks and would not exceed six months before completion.
Hon Tobun alluded to the large turnout as a reflection of the fulfilment of his campaign promises. The “Messiah” on behalf of his constituents, applauded the Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, for their collaboration in facilitating infrastructural development in Epe.
He also rallied support for the newly elected Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Princess Surah Omotanwa Animashaun, describing her as “a lady of substance, passion and a lady determined to succeed. He guaranteed his constituents that her leadership will usher in growth and development to the town.
Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of Epe Local Government, Princess Surah Animashaun, in her welcome address, thanked the people of Epe for their support. She praised Hon Tobun for representing the interests of Epe people at the State parliament and also promising to do her best for the people.

The event also featured an in-depth interactive session with a film show. An official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Prof. Simeon, facilitated the display of a video documentary. The documentary centred around Mrs Fatima, a drug addict who later gave up drug abuse. According to the documentary, she got rehabilitated and made rapid improvements that conform with the norms and values of society. He reiterated that parents have a lot to do back home in paying close attention to their children and peers, their behaviour, physical appearances and their attitude towards academic activities.
Comrade Giwa Moshood Olasupo, a Youth Leader, commended the efforts of the Hon. Abiodun Tobun, and pleaded that parents should be watchful of their children. Also, a student from Odo-Obara Senior High School Adegboyega koyinsola pleaded with the Lawmaker on the speedy completion of their ICT Center, provision of furniture, laboratory apparatus and more teachers to the school. Also, Representatives from various groups commended the lawmaker and also highlighted their areas of frailty.
