Eko Hot Blog reports that Hon. Abiodun Tobun, the member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Epe constituency 1, has urged the leadership of the Epe Local Government (LG) to carry youths and other residents along on its developmental strides.
The lawmaker made the appeal on Thursday after joining the Epe LG Chairman, Hon. Surah Animashaun, to break ground for a multipurpose hall on the premises of the LG council secretariat.
Both leaders also attended a stakeholders meeting convened by the Epe LG chairman just before the groundbreaking ceremony.
Reacting to the meeting and groundbreaking ceremony, Hon. Tobun hailed Animashaun’s accomplishments, saying the meeting with stakeholders presented a great avenue for the Epe LG leadership to inform constituents of its developmental efforts.
In an interview with Eko Hot Blog, the lawmaker said the people will only know about a leader’s accomplishments when they are informed, urging the Epe LG chairman to be consistent in carrying residents along.
“I congratulate the chairman Hon. Princess Surah Animashaun, because when you are serving people, you must carry them along. Let them know what you are doing. If you don’t tell me them, nobody will tell them on your behalf,” he said.
“Social media is not enough, and that is why we have taken it upon ourselves to our legislative House of Assembly to be having a constituency engagement meeting on a regular basis. What she has done today is that she kept the people informed of activities in the last two years, and she has equally invited them to the groundbreaking.
“I think it’s a good one, and I am happy for her that she was able to do this. You can hear the comments; they were convinced beyond reasonable doubt that if she has done so much, then where are the criticisms coming from?
“It was because they were not informed, but now members of the community are well informed of activities. If anybody is not convinced that person should stand up to ask questions, and that was the reason why the chairman allowed everybody to ask questions and she was able to respond to those questions, I think she has done well to organize this kind of meeting.”
Hon. Tobun also expressed hope that the multipurpose hall will be completed within six months, as promised by the engineer in charge of the project.
“We all witnessed the groundbreaking today, and we shall be a witness to the commissioning of the project in the next 6 to 8 months as promised by the council engineer. All things being equal, with the availability of funds, we will keep doing what is expected of us. I feel she has done well by organizing this meeting and this groundbreaking.
“With what she has done today, it will be on the media, and further notice will be well spread so that the youths too will be in attendance to come and see what they are doing. What is important is to criticize constructively, not just condemn.
“I think the management of the council will keep the youths more informed, let the youth come up, be represented well and be part of things that are ongoing in the council.”
