Tokunbo Wahab: Lagos Gives 4-Day Relocation Notice To Squatters On Coastal Road

  • Lagos State Government issued a 4-day relocation notice to squatters on Lagos coastal road

  • Squatters occupying illegal shanties around Mayegun, Lekki area must vacate by Thursday

  • Failure to move will invite enforcement operatives from Friday morning

Eko Hot Blog reports that Tokunbo Wahab, the Honorable Commissioner for Environment in Lagos State, has issued a 4-day relocation notice to squatters occupying illegal shanties around the Lagos coastal road in the Mayegun, Lekki area.

After an inspection tour, Tokunbo Wahab stated, “All these illegal shanties and squatters near the Regional Road must vacate by Thursday afternoon. If they fail to move, enforcement officers will come from Friday morning onwards, as all these properties have been served notice to leave.”

Tokunbo Wahab, accompanied by officials, inspected System 157 (Orchid Road), System 44 (Lekki to Ikota), Mayegun Area (Jakande), Regional Road Alignment, Dodan Barracks, Obalende and Ilubirin areas.

According to Tokunbo Wahab, the inspection aimed to secure the coastal areas and remove illegal settlements along the corridors. “Next week, these spots will be cleared with the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABCA) properly redeveloping the areas,” he said.

Wahab emphasized that this is a state-wide enforcement drive. It will start this week at System 157 (Orchid Road) to open the 40-meter drainage, as people have built on the canal path, narrowing the main channel and causing flooding.

“The government held several meetings with property owners and residents, serving them notices in the last quarter of 2023. But we have not seen any commitment from the affected community members to leave,” Wahab added.
