Top Australian TV Journalist Stan Grant Quits Amidst Racist Attacks
EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a striking display of national introspection, one of Australia’s most esteemed television journalists, Stan Grant, has resigned from his show due to the racial abuse he endures as an Indigenous man in the public eye.
Stan Grant, an award-winning journalist working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), revealed that the national broadcaster had filed a complaint with Twitter regarding the “relentless racial filth” he has been subjected to.

Stan Grant further expressed his disappointment with the media, accusing them of distorting his words and depicting him as “hate-filled” after he raised the issue of Britain’s colonial persecution of Indigenous Australians during the ABC’s coverage of King Charles III’s coronation.
He stated that he highlighted how the crown symbolized the invasion and theft of Indigenous land, as well as the historical injustices suffered by Indigenous people, including the forced removal of children from their families and widespread massacres under the crown.
However, some conservative media outlets heavily criticized Grant’s commentary during the coronation coverage, deeming it one-sided and inappropriate. Despite this backlash, Grant emphasized that his intention was to speak out of love for Australia and to shed light on the persistently high rates of imprisonment and poverty experienced by Indigenous people.
In a poignant announcement, the 59-year-old journalist revealed that he would step down as a presenter following the next episode of the ABC’s current affairs discussion program, Q+A, on Monday.
Grant expressed his disappointment that no one at the ABC, including its executives, had publicly refuted the false narratives and lies circulating about him.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese voiced his support for Grant, emphasizing the importance of respecting different viewpoints without resorting to vilification. ABC news director Justin Stevens also released a statement in solidarity with Grant, acknowledging the grotesque racial abuse and threats he has endured.
Various colleagues, including Sarah Ferguson, presenter of the ABC’s flagship evening current affairs program, The 7.30 Report, expressed their horror at Grant’s resignation, praising his brilliance and emphasizing his value as a cherished member of the ABC team.
Osman Faruqi, culture news editor for The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald, highlighted that the issue extends beyond the national broadcaster, stating that a toxic undercurrent of racial prejudice permeates various institutions in Australia, including the media, sports, arts, business, and politics.
Grant acknowledged that Indigenous people have learned to “tough it out” in the face of adversity but emphasized that the stakes are now higher as the country prepares for a referendum later this year on whether to grant Indigenous people the constitutional right to be consulted on laws affecting them.
Grant regarded this referendum as an Australian judgment on Indigenous communities and highlighted the need for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
The resignation of Stan Grant has brought attention to the pervasive issue of racism in Australia, prompting a much-needed conversation about the toxic racial attitudes that continue to affect the nation’s institutions.
