Top Four PDP Stalwarts Eyeing The Position Of Secondus Ahead Of Convention

  • “The Constitution, traditions and practices of the Party should be strictly adhered to in finding solutions to any problems,” the PDP Governors said in a statement signed by Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Following the criticism that trailed the incumbent Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Governors under the umbrella of the PDP has called on aggrieved members of the party to sheath their sword, citing the supremacy of the constitution.

The governors also took proactive step by scheduling the National Convention of the party to October. This was contained in a statement by the opposition’s Governors Forum.

“The Constitution, traditions and practices of the Party should be strictly adhered to in finding solutions to any problems,” the PDP Governors said in a statement signed by Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal.

Mr Tambuwal is the Chairman of the PDP Governor’s forum.

“All parties should sheath their sword in the greater interest of the PDP and the need to RESCUE Nigeria from the avoidable National malaise and drift occasioned by the APC administration,” the statement added.

The Governors also called for the activation of all processes “leading to an early National Convention in October.”

Ahead of the convention in October, there are four prominent members of the party eyeing the position already. Below is the list of them.

Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola

The 70-years-old Politician was a Former Governor of Osun State, a position he occupied from May 2003 to November 2010. Oyinlola retired as an Army Brigadier General, he was a One-time Military Administrator in Lagos State (1993 – 1996). The Okuku-born Prince was the only Nigerian Politician who served consecutively as a Military and a Civilian Governor.

Senator Liyel Imoke

Liyel Imoke was one of the founding Members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He is one of the few Nigerian Politicians who have been a Senator, Minister and Governor. The Cross River State politician was one of the prominent South-South PDP Chieftains aspiring to succeed Secondus.

Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo

Dankwambo, a Former Accountant General of Federation, came into political limelight in 2011 after he contested and was elected as Governor of Gombe State, a position he occupied for Two-terms. The 59-year-old Dankwambo sought for the 2019 PDP Presidential Ticket but lost at the primaries. He is one of the Northern Political Gladiators in the race for the PDP National Chairmanship Seat.

Jimi Agbaje

Agbaje is a political protégé of Chief Bode George, a Former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP and One-time Military Governor in Ondo State. The Lagos State-born Pharmacist turned Politician was in the Race for the same position Four years ago, but later stepped down.
