Top Plateau APC Chieftains Jostle For Lalong Ministerial Post

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the political landscape in Plateau State is abuzz with anticipation as multiple contenders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) jostle for the prospective ministerial role left vacant by the looming decision of Simon Bako Lalong, the Minister of Labour and Employment, to possibly shift to the Senate.

The intrigue surrounding Lalong’s potential resignation heightened following a recent court ruling in his favor for the Plateau South Senatorial District. Despite appeals from his colleagues in the labor sector urging him to maintain his current role, Lalong is torn between the Senate, urged by his constituents, and his ministerial position.

This uncertainty has spurred a flurry of ambitions among APC stalwarts in Plateau, leading to a convergence in Abuja, with contenders eagerly eyeing the forthcoming vacancy.

Political insiders have disclosed that influential figures within the APC are actively advocating for their preferred candidates, exposing a complex tapestry of alliances and vested interests.

Among the top contenders, Prof. Saleh Mohammed Kanam stands out, backed by notable personalities such as Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda and Yusuf Gagdi. Kanam’s blend of academic acumen and grassroots connection positions him as a frontrunner, promising a unique perspective in policy formulation.

Competing alongside Kanam is former Attorney-General Prof. Dakas Dakas, leveraging his extensive legal background and unwavering party allegiance as key strengths.

Another contender, Professor Danladi Atu, supported by former governor Lalong, brings a combination of academic expertise and political experience, albeit facing challenges in local grassroots support.

The list of potential nominees also includes Prof. Garba Sharubutu, recognized for his agricultural research expertise and close association with Lalong.

However, the landscape isn’t devoid of challenges. Komsol Alpanson, despite strong constituency support, encounters obstacles due to past political discord, while Festus Fuanter’s national-level connections contrast with his limited local political grounding.

Rufus Bature, known for his longstanding political career and alignment with party ideals, emerges as a safe choice for the ministerial position.

Completing the roster of contenders are Bashir Musan Sati and Sani Mudi, both vying for the coveted appointment, adding further depth to an already intense competition.
