The father of Tottenham star Son Heung-min, Son Woong-jung, has been fined three million won ($2,220) by a South Korean court for violating child welfare laws at his football academy, according to reports.

Son Woong-jung, a former footballer who authored a best-selling memoir about guiding his son to become a Premier League star, faced the charges alongside his other son, Son Heung-yun, and a third individual.

The case stems from allegations made earlier this year by the parents of a young player at Son’s academy, who claimed their son was struck by coach Son Heung-yun, leaving a large bruise on his thigh.

Son Woong-jung was accused of verbally abusing the student and his teammates.

All three defendants were fined three million won each and ordered to complete 40 hours of child abuse education, according to Yonhap and other South Korean media.

The Chuncheon District Court handed down the ruling on Friday, following an indictment from prosecutors on August 30. The defendants have the option to appeal.
