President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained to Nigerians living in China the reasons behind the recent hike in petrol prices back home.
Speaking during a meeting with the Nigerian community in Beijing, Tinubu addressed the concerns surrounding the rising cost of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), which has now reached between N897 and N1000 per liter, according to reports earlier this week.
Tinubu, who concluded his official visit to China on Friday, described his trip as “very good and successful” but acknowledged the challenges Nigerians are facing due to the government’s tough economic decisions.
“For example, you might have been hearing from home in the last few days about fuel prices,” Tinubu said.
“But can we help it? Can we develop good roads like you have here? You see electricity being constant in quantity and quality.”
He highlighted that essential services such as constant electricity, good roads, clean water supply, and quality schools, which are enjoyed by Nigerians in China, can only be achieved in Nigeria through collective sacrifice.
The President added that his administration’s decisions, while difficult, are necessary steps to ensure that Nigeria develops the infrastructure and services that its citizens deserve.
