TP Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo have been crowned champions of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League in Morocco.
In a tactical and fiercely contested final at Stade Ben Ahmed El Abdi in El Jadida, the DR Congo side triumphed 1-0 over hosts and former champions, AS FAR, marking their first-ever continental title and redemption after their disappointing group-stage exit in 2022.
Despite the overwhelming support for the home team, Mazembe demonstrated resilience and bravery, taking the game to the defending champions, who are still in pursuit of their elusive second title.
The match’s only goal came in the opening 10 minutes, when Marlene Kasaj converted a penalty, which Mazembe defended resolutely for the remainder of the game.
AS FAR, despite the early setback, pressed forward in search of an equalizer, but Mazembe’s defence stood firm, maintaining a clean sheet through the first half.
In the second half, Mazembe emerged as the more dangerous side, looking to finish the game off, but AS FAR struggled to break through Mazembe’s disciplined defence.
