Traffic Law Violation: LASTMA Calls For Caution

EKO Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned mass transit bus drivers and owners against violating traffic laws in the state.

According to the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, “I want to state categorically that you should ensure that your members are trained and re-trained so as not to run foul of traffic regulations.” He issued this warning during a courtesy visit by Operators of Federal Mass Transit Buses to the LASTMA office in Oshodi, Lagos.

Mr. Bakare-Oki stressed that the agency will not tolerate any form of illegality by bus or private car drivers who park indiscriminately on the roadside, kerbs, walkways or setbacks, thereby obstructing free flow of vehicular and human traffic.

He further stated, “The newly introduced Traffic Management Solutions (TMS) cameras would bring sanity, transparency, orderliness, civility and voluntary compliance on traffic management and control on our roads across Lagos.”

The Chairman of the Operators of Federal Mass Transit buses, Mr. Abed Achewa, acknowledged the importance of LASTMA officers in improving travel time and traffic flow in Lagos. He congratulated the new Acting GM of LASTMA and called for more collaboration to promote public safety.

Mr. Achewa confirmed that the association has started educating members to comply with the state’s Transport Sector Reform Law 2018.
