Tragedy struck in the riverine community of Biagbini in Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State on Saturday following the death of a 70-year-old woman and her four grand-children in an inferno.
According to an eyewitness, who gave the name of the deceased grandmother as Moyo Jide, the grandchildren identified as Jennifer, 3; Gbana, 7; Biddaddy, 5 and Wisdom, 9 were all consumed by the fire, which allegedly started from the kitchen.
Two of the grandchildren were said to be living with the grandmother since after the death of their father (Mrs. Moyo’s son) few years ago.
It was gathered that the building where the incident happened was completely razed.
The eyewitness added that the fire started in the early hours of Saturday morning when the deceased were still asleep.
He said the matter was immediately reported at the Arogbo Police Division while the corpses of the deceased had been deposited at a hospital.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the state, Femi Joseph stated that investigation had begun towards unraveling the cause of the inferno.
“We are yet to ascertain the cause of the fire incident but we have commenced our investigation into it.”
