Eko Hot Blog reports on an averted tragedy that almost occurred on the Kara bridge section of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway after an articulated truck conveying a 40ft container fell on Monday night, January 30.
The driver was said to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and the container to fall on the road.
The accident resulted in vehicular movements on the road being halted for a while.
The incident occurred just 24 hours after another container fell on a commercial bus in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos State, resulting in the death of nine people, including two children.
The recent string of accidents has brought to light the need for better road safety measures and stricter regulations for truck drivers to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
Although no casualties were reported in this recent incident, it serves as a reminder of the importance of taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of road users and prevent further loss of life.
Authorities and relevant stakeholders are urged to work together to improve road safety and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future as just under a day 2 likely accidents have occurred in the metropolitan state.
