Conflicting versions of the motive behind the attack emerged, with one suggesting that the housemaid had been impregnated by a rival cultist who allegedly killed one of their members.

Another version claimed a misunderstanding between the housemaid and the assailant due to his friend, whom she accused of being responsible for her pregnancy.

The suspected murderer, who had previously warned the housemaid to stop associating his friend with her baby’s father, scaled a fence to access the house in the absence of the retired nurse.

Upon the nurse’s return, she found the attacker stabbing the housemaid. Despite her pleas, the assailant continued the assault, also stabbing the retired nurse multiple times.

Neighbors rushed the victims to the hospital, but the retired nurse succumbed to her injuries before reaching medical help.

The remains of both victims were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi. The housemaid’s baby is now in the care of another neighbor.

The state command spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, promised to provide more information but had not done so as of the time of filing this report.
