Tragedy Strikes Lagos As 3-Storey Building Collapses Amid Heavy Rainfall
Eko Hot Blog reports that a three-storey building located at 24 Binuyo Street off Ita Faaji Market in Lagos Island LGA collapsed on Thursday morning around 9am amid heavy rainfall.

According to a statement by Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services Director Margaret Adeseye, the building was under renovation when it caved in. She stated that “The few artisans on site escaped unhurt.”
Adeseye disclosed that firefighters from the Ebute Elefun Station and other emergency responders rushed to the scene. The cause of the collapse is still unknown, but recovery operations have concluded.
In September 2023, an 80-year-old woman died when a staircase collapsed in Oyingbo. The Lagos State Building Control Agency blamed that incident on occupants not complying with a vacation order.
Adeseye’s statement said about Thursday’s collapse: “A three-storey building under renovation at 24, Binuyo Street off Ita Faaji Market, Lagos, collapsed during a downpour. The few artisans on site escaped unhurt.”

The collapse during heavy rains caused panic in the Lagos Island community. Fortunately construction workers got out safely, but the damage was done to the building undergoing renovations. Officials are still determining the cause.
