The collision happened on Sunday when a freight train collided with a bus conveying passengers to a religious event, officials reported.
The collision occurred on Sunday morning, 50 kilometres away from the capital of Thailand, Bangkok, tearing off part of the train’s roof.
The hospital director, Sombat Chutimanukul, of the hospital where the 40 injured were rushed to said, “Four are in critical condition and eight remain under observation”.

She explained that “The death toll is at 18,” and that “the investigation on the cause of the accident is ongoing”.
A resident of the area where the crash happened said of the crash, “I was frozen in fear when I saw the crash… It was a terrible sight.
“All the passengers were moaning and crying for help.”
While speaking with AFP, a factory worker, Samruan Thongdee, said, “I called my colleagues to come to help.
“I managed to drag a woman from the wreckage and helped her up onto the train platform.”
The Premier of Thailand, Prayut Chan-O-Cha has ordered relevant authorities to look into the cause of the crash.
Accidents like this are common in the southeast Asian nation, as the roads have been left in a debilitated state by a big storm.
