Before his move to Strasbourg, the 24-year-old signed a new contract with improved terms at Chelsea. Strasbourg is owned by BlueCo, the parent company of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
Chelsea, who signed Petrovic from New England Revolution for £14 million last summer, view the loan move as beneficial for his long-term development.
