Transfer: Key Factors Chelsea’s Bid For Victor Osimhen Fell Through

Two major factors have emerged explaining why Victor Osimhen did not join Chelsea before the summer transfer window closed.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Nigerian forward remains with Napoli after the European transfer deadline passed on Friday night, as Chelsea failed to finalize a deal for the striker, who has been a long-term target for the club.

Osimhen, who has netted 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli and was instrumental in their Serie A title win two years ago, was expected to bolster Chelsea’s attack.

EDITOR’S PICKS:

The Blues were particularly keen to strengthen their forward line, given Nicolas Jackson’s challenging first season following his £32 million transfer.

However, Osimhen will remain with Napoli until at least January for two key reasons:

Osimhen refused to accept a significant pay cut. Chelsea reportedly offered a contract worth €155,000 per week, which is less than his current salary at Napoli.

The player was unwilling to reduce his wages, leading to the deal falling through. As a result, Chelsea’s representatives left Naples disappointed late Friday.

Chelsea shifted focus towards a move for Jadon Sancho from Manchester United. The Blues saw an opportunity to secure the England international, finalizing an agreement with United just before the window closed. This shift in priorities affected their pursuit of Osimhen.

Despite the transfer window closing in Europe, Al-Ahli, a Saudi Arabian club, remains interested in Osimhen. Although a deal with Napoli has been agreed upon, Osimhen has shown reluctance to move to the Saudi club. Reports indicate that the striker has informed Napoli of his unwillingness to continue playing for the Italian side.
