Ugarte could undergo a medical in Manchester as early as Tuesday. The move coincides with Scott McTominay’s impending €30m (£25.37m) transfer to Napoli.
Ugarte, who joined PSG from Sporting Lisbon for €60m just a year ago, has been linked to United throughout the summer and is now set to join the Old Trafford club. The 23-year-old made 37 appearances under Luis Enrique, helping PSG secure their 12th Ligue 1 title. PSG has also secured a 10% sell-on clause for Ugarte.
The completion of Ugarte’s transfer is dependent on McTominay finalizing his move to Napoli, but there is optimism that the deal will go through. McTominay is scheduled to travel to Italy for a medical on Tuesday.
United sources acknowledge that Premier League regulations incentivize selling home-grown players. Despite offers last year, McTominay remained at the club, making 32 Premier League appearances and scoring seven goals last season. He also played in the FA Cup final victory against Manchester City.
United had identified Ugarte early in the transfer window and were patient in their negotiations. Should the deal be finalized, Ugarte will be United’s fifth summer signing, pushing their spending beyond £190m. Since Erik ten Hag’s appointment in 2022, United has spent nearly £600m on new players.
