After a breakthrough in negotiations, the Italian club is expected to pay around £30 million for the Belgian striker. The deal is set to be a permanent transfer, with a sell-on clause included, which could see Chelsea benefit from any future sale of the player.
Napoli’s manager, Antonio Conte, is particularly eager to reunite with Lukaku, having previously enjoyed great success with the striker during their time together at Inter Milan. Under Conte’s management, Lukaku thrived, delivering two prolific seasons for Inter from 2019 to 2021, which included winning the Serie A title.
Lukaku initially returned to Chelsea in 2021 for a hefty £97.5 million, marking his second stint at the London club. However, his time at Stamford Bridge did not go as planned, with the forward struggling to find his form. As a result, he spent the last two seasons on loan in Italy, first returning to Inter Milan and then joining AS Roma for the 2022-2023 season.
While Lukaku’s move to Napoli seems imminent, the transfer could have further implications. There is speculation that this deal might pave the way for Napoli’s star forward, Victor Osimhen, to move in the opposite direction. Chelsea is reportedly interested in the Nigerian striker, and they might explore an initial loan deal for Osimhen as part of the negotiations.
Lukaku, who has not featured for Chelsea since May 2022, is set to embark on a new chapter in his career with Napoli, where he will aim to recapture the form that made him one of Europe’s most feared strikers under Conte’s guidance.
