Trial Begins Over Beheading Of Teacher Who Showed Prophet Muhammed Cartoon

A trial commenced in Paris on Monday concerning the 2020 beheading of a teacher, according to reports from media outlets.

Eight individuals faced court on terrorism charges related to the murder of Samuel Paty, a 47-year-old history and geography teacher in Conflans-Saint-Honorine, a suburb of Paris, as reported by French broadcaster France Bleu.

Paty was killed in October 2020 by Abdoullakh Anzorov, an 18-year-old of Chechen descent who was subsequently shot dead by police.

The teacher was targeted for displaying controversial cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad during one of his classes.

Two associates of Anzorov, Naim Boudaoud, 22, and Azim Epsirkhanov, 23, are accused of complicity in the “terrorist assassination,” as stated by France Bleu.

The remaining six defendants face charges related to participation in a terrorist and criminal organization.

Investigations revealed that Anzorov was not a student of Paty’s and had come across the teacher’s name on social media. He lived approximately 100 kilometres (60 miles) away from the school where Paty taught.

The trial is expected to conclude by late December.
