It was indeed a celebration of life as family, friends and well wishers of the Erogbogbo family came together to mark the glorious life and times of Alhaja Sadiat Abeke Erogbogbo, who died on February 1, 2021.
Alhaja Erogbogbo was mother to former Lawmaker and current chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as well as six other children who are all prominent members of the Nigerian society.
Beyond her biological offsprings, she was also mother to legions of prodigies whom she groomed during the course of a stellar career as a Government Teacher. Her sagacity and uncanny ability to impart knowledge and sound moral inclination to her students would later earn her the appellation “The Kind Teacher”.
The Fidau Prayer Service, which held in her native Ikorodu in Lagos state had in attendance eminent Nigerians who all turned out to honour a mother whose legacy has been etched in gold following her dedication and commitment to contributing value wherever life’s sojourn took her.
Speaking with EKO HOT BLOG, Alhaja Kofowora Kassim, Alhaja Erogbogbo’s eldest daughter described her as a quintessence of compassion whose astounding humane qualities endeared her to all whom she came in contact with through the course of her very impactful life. She described Alhaja’s passing as a huge loss to humanity but took solace in the firm imprints Alhaja endeavoured to leave on the sands of time.
Also speaking, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, NiDCOM Chairman, described her mother as a great beacon light for many whose lives she touched through her immense kindness. She referenced Alhaja’s role as a teacher as the driving force behind the sound upbringing she and her siblings were privileged to have, an upbringing which has provided the moral rectitude to always embrace altruistic values in all that they do.
Alhaji Ajibola Ashafa Erogbogbo, Alhaja’s husband thanked God for the good fortune of having enjoyed 68 years of bliss with a remarkable wife. He described Alhaja’s loss as an irreparable one but expressed gratitude for the longevity of a union that was blessed beyond measure.
In another reactionary comment, Mr. Abayomi Erogbogbo, Alhaja’s son said his mother was a mother not merely by appellation but by her exceptional qualities that helped her positively influence her progenies and prodigies towards becoming productive members of the society.
Indeed, there was no shortage of tributes and eulogies from family and friends, all of which testified to the rare and stellar qualities of a nonagenarian whose nine decades on earth were laced with an unyielding and unremitting service to humanity.
The Fidau Prayer Service held in Alhaja’s native Ikorodu and was themed by prayers by the Muslim Community, who prayed for her to find Aljannah Firdaus, having lived an exemplary life on earth. The officiating Imam also enjoined guests present to emulate Alhaja’s sterling attributes, which encapsulated altruism and living for the gratification of humanity.
Highlights of the Fidau Prayer Service also included a virtual presentation by Mama’s grandchildren, adulations and encomiums from eminent Nigerians, including a condolence message from The President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), as well as artistic performances by guest performers, all of which added spice to the physical resplendence provided by elegant colours draped by family members and guests at the event.
Alhaja Erogbogbo, mother of NiDCOM Chairman, Abike Dabiri-Erewa was honoured with a Fidau prayer service in Lagos on Sunday, February 7th, 2021.
