Troops of the Nigerian Army have killed three suspected terrorists during a gun battle with fighters believed to be affiliated with Lakurawa insurgents in Kadam Forest in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the operation was carried out by troops of the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion 7 in collaboration with the 8 Division Strike Team.
Confirming the development, the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 8 Division, Olaniyi Osoba, said the operation followed intelligence reports that a large group of armed fighters had assembled inside the forest.
According to him, the terrorists were allegedly planning coordinated attacks and kidnappings in nearby communities.
“The operation was initiated following credible intelligence indicating that over 100 terrorists had converged deep within Kadam Forest to coordinate attacks and kidnappings on local communities and transport their kidnapped victims to their strongholds,” Osoba said.
He added that troops swiftly mobilised to the location and made contact with the insurgents around noon, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

“The ensuing firefight was fierce and sustained. When the terrorists attempted a rear-flanking manoeuvre, troops responded with superior firepower, effectively neutralising the threat and maintaining tactical dominance throughout the engagement,” he added.
The army said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to curb terrorism and banditry in the region.
