Troops of the Nigerian army in Dikwa, Borno state, forestall an onslaught on their base by the rampaging Boko Haram insurgents.
The insurgents had, on Friday, launched a daring attack on the military super camp, few kilometres from Dikwa town.
According to TheCable, the insurgents stormed the camp with heavy machine guns and trucks but were engaged and repelled in a face-off that lasted for over three hours.
“They want to get access to the town, so they launched the first attack at the military camp,” the outfit quoted a military source to have said.
“Troops immediately responded and engaged with the enemies for about three hours before the enemies withdraw.
“As at now, we can’t say if there’s any casualties. Some of the soldiers went after the enemies down to the bush.”
Another source said the insurgents had planned to steal weapons and machines at the military camp.
As at Saturday morning, Ekohotblog gathered that there’s has been a reinforcement at the military camp.
In the past weeks, momentum has swung to the side of the troops as the continue to intensify efforts in the fight against the insurgents.
