The Nigerian army made significant inroad in its bid to rid the country of insurgency as troops of 28 Task Force Brigade of Sector under Operation Lafiya Dole in Borno State annihilated the notorious Boko Haram sect, killing 48 of its members.
The victory was recorded in ambushes laid against the terrorists by the troops while acting on intelligence along Chibok-Damboa axis as well as Askira-Chibok Main Supply Route both in Borno State.
In a statement released on Saturday by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Mohammed Yerima, indicated that eleven kidnapped victims were also rescued in the aftermath of the encounters.
“Nigerian Army troops deployed in Chibok under 28 Task Force Brigade of Sector 1 Operation LAFIYA DOLE have neutralised scores of Boko Haram terrorists in an ambush along Chibok – Damboa axis of Borno state.
“The troops achieved the feat while acting on credible intelligence that some remnants of insurgents were fleeing due to the intensity of troops’ operations in Sambisa Forest.”
According to the statement 15 AK 47 rifles and 4 magazines were among items recovered by the gallant troops during the operation.
“The gallant troops are presently dominating the area with aggressive patrols and are equally on a trail of fleeing terrorists in order to locate and neutralise them”, the statement says.
It also says, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru appreciates the bravery and deftness of the troops and urges them to remain dogged and maintain their offensive posture in all operations until the area is rid of all remnants of terrorists.
He (Army Chief) equally appreciates members of the public for their continuous support to the troops and enjoins them to continue to provide credible information to the troops and other security agencies operating within their localities.
