After a standout performance at AFCON 2023, where he was named Player of the Tournament, the 30-year-old was linked with a move to the Middle East. Troost-Ekong was a key player for PAOK before a ruptured biceps femoris in his right leg in February required surgery, sidelining him for the remainder of the season. Despite the injury, he played a pivotal role in PAOK’s Super League triumph, making 22 appearances and scoring one goal across all competitions.
Troost-Ekong has now agreed to join Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood in a deal reportedly worth €1.2 million ($1.3 million). The contract terms include a two-year deal with an option for an additional 12 months.
Following the confirmation of his transfer, the former Watford defender took to social media to express his gratitude to PAOK Thessaloniki fans, thanking them for their support during his time with the Greek champions.
Troost-Ekong took to social media to bid PAOK goodbye, saying, “Dear PAOK, after an amazing year and season in Thessaloniki, I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to share and be part of those moments with you,”he wrote on X.
“I want to thank the president, club staff, medical team, General Lucescu, assistants and especially my teammates who have become my family, for the belief and hard work that resulted in an unforgettable championship and special European nights.
“To the fans, thank you for the support through difficult times. Toumba is something special and now I understand what MONO PAOK means. I wish everyone another successful season and I will continue to follow PAOK. All the best.”
