Trump Appoints Campaign Manager As First Female White House Chief Of Staff

Published

on

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Susie Wiles, the strategic force behind his successful campaign, as White House Chief of Staff, marking the first time a woman will hold this influential position.

Wiles, credited both within and outside Trump’s circle for leading his most disciplined and effective campaign to date, had emerged as the top candidate for the role. Known for staying out of the spotlight, she avoided a formal title during the campaign, likely to sidestep becoming a target in Trump’s historically shifting campaign team. Notably, she declined to speak on stage during Trump’s victory celebration early Wednesday morning.

This appointment marks Trump’s first major move as president-elect and signals a significant test for his incoming administration as he begins building the team that will steer the federal government. While Wiles has limited federal government experience, she has cultivated a strong rapport with Trump.

Throughout the campaign, Wiles demonstrated a rare ability to rein in Trump’s impulses, earning his trust and showing him the advantages of following her counsel.

Trump Speech

“Susie is tough, smart, innovative and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again,” Trump said in a statement. “It is a well deserved honour to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”

Effective chiefs of staff play a crucial role as the president’s trusted advisor, executing the administration’s agenda while balancing complex political and policy priorities. They often act as a gatekeeper, managing who meets with and speaks to the president—a dynamic that has sometimes been a challenge for Trump in the past.
