Trump Blames National Archives for Legal Woes, Promises Leadership Overhaul

  • Trump plans to replace the U.S. Archivist after taking office.
  • He blames the archivist for his classified documents case.
  • Trump criticized Jack Smith, calling him “deranged.”

President Elect Donald Trump, in a recent interview with conservative host Hugh Hewitt, pledged to replace the Archivist of the United States upon assuming office again.

The promise stems from Trump’s belief that the archivist’s actions led to his legal troubles over classified documents.

During the interview, Hewitt suggested that Trump’s “problems in Florida at Mar-a-Lago” began when the previous archivist reported him to the Department of Justice.

Hewitt accused the archivist of harboring political bias, prompting Trump to agree.

“The one who was there was a disaster,” Trump said, asserting that the archivist’s complaints were unfounded.

He also praised U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon for dismissing charges related to the classified documents case. Trump criticized Special Counsel Jack Smith, calling him “deranged” and questioning his judgment.

Hewitt pressed Trump on whether he would appoint a new archivist to prevent similar situations in the future.

Trump confirmed, stating, “We will get somebody. Yes… Yeah, we will have a new archivist.”

The current Archivist of the United States, Dr. Colleen J. Shogan, was sworn in on May 17, 2023, as the first woman to hold the position.

While not directly involved in Trump’s legal issues, her role has come under scrutiny in the broader political debate surrounding classified documents.
