Donald Trump, the Republican frontrunner for the 2024 presidential race, is heading to Pennsylvania again this Sunday, marking his fourth visit to the state in just a month.
This time, he’s holding a rally in Erie, located in the northwestern part of the state.
Trump is set to speak at 2 p.m. local time (1800 GMT), a month after his running mate, U.S. Senator JD Vance, also hosted an event in the same city.
Trump will return to the state again on Oct. 5 for another rally in western Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania has emerged as a critical battleground in the upcoming election, with many of Trump’s allies and advisors privately emphasizing its importance.
They consider it the most crucial swing state for the November election.
Among the seven key states both Trump and his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, are vying to win, Pennsylvania offers the most Electoral College votes, making it a top priority for both campaigns.
According to Trump’s supporters, a victory in Pennsylvania could pave the way for his return to the White House.
However, losing the state could give Harris a significant advantage in the overall race.
EDITORS PICK:
Reflecting the high stakes, both candidates have invested heavily in the state, spending hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising.
Pennsylvania has seen more campaign spending than any other state, both in total and on a per capita basis.
Erie, where Trump’s rally will take place, is a particularly significant area.
In 2016, Erie County backed Trump in his race against Hillary Clinton, but in 2020, it swung in favor of Joe Biden.
Trump narrowly won Pennsylvania and the presidency in 2016, but lost both in 2020.
With the 2024 election shaping up to be another close contest, polls show Harris leading Trump by a slim margin of 1.6 percentage points in Pennsylvania, according to FiveThirtyEight’s poll average.
This difference falls within the margin of error, indicating a tight race in the state.
Trump’s upcoming rally on Oct. 5 will be held in Butler, about 100 miles (160 km) south of Erie.
Butler holds significance for Trump as it was the location of an assassination attempt in July, where a bullet grazed his ear.
Despite the incident, Trump remains focused on rallying support in Pennsylvania, a state that could decide the next occupant of the Oval Office.
