Among his proposals were eliminating taxes on tips and overtime pay. These initiatives, along with broader labor policies, could form a key part of Chavez-DeRemer’s responsibilities in the role.
“Lori’s strong support from both the Business and Labor communities will ensure that the Labor Department can unite Americans of all backgrounds,” Trump wrote in a statement released by his campaign.
Writing on X earlier this week, Chavez-DeRemer noted Trump’s success in expanding his working-class coalition.
“This is a true political realignment,” she wrote. “We must continue to be the party of the American Worker, with President Trump leading the way!”
In recent days, Teamsters President Sean O’Brien advocated for Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination, highlighting her rare support among congressional Republicans for the PRO Act. The legislation aims to strengthen union organizing efforts by, among other measures, overturning state Right to Work laws that limit union power.

On Friday evening, O’Brien expressed gratitude for Chavez-DeRemer’s selection, sharing a photo of himself with Trump and Chavez-DeRemer on X (formerly Twitter).
Despite endorsements from several unions, including her local Teamsters branch, Chavez-DeRemer lost her congressional seat in her re-election bid this fall.
